Elfen Lied - Final Thoughts...

CAUTION!!! Don't read unless you wanna know the ending!!! MAJOR SPOILERS!!!

Well, Elfen Lied is over and it was a fun ride. Okay maybe fun isn't the right word, more interesting and emotional, but oh well. I was kinda annoyed near the middle of the episode because first of all, Kurama didn't kill #35 like he should have, so they both died (at least she's dead...). And then Kouta actually kissed Lucy, which I don't understand mostly because SHE KILLED HIS DAD AND SISTER!!! Anyways, I kinda liked how it ended with a unclear ending, but I really hope Lucy isn't still alive just because she really did deserve to die. It was really creepy when the grandfather clock chimed at the end tho...

Nyuu/Lucy survives in the manga, except that the manga got cancelled before any real resolution to the series.

Yah, I figured she survived. As much as I like Lucy (not Nyuu tho, lol), I just think it would be a better ending if she was dead considering she's pretty volatile sometimes (I mean what would happen if she saw Kouta kissing Yuka or something?). Oh well...

personally i tink the ending is gd...after all, lucy did become a hornless diclonius, and is rather considered a human...since she noes dat shes wrong, Kyrie must have accepted her apology to kouta and let her live on.

elfen lied was great i really enjoyed watching it. it was definitely different. As of right now its definitely one of my favorite animes. well some people think lucy died at the end of the series im sure she didnt, otherwise the end wouldnt make any sense. lucy-san wa kakoii dayo and to all the people who think lucy should of died can go to hell, most of the people desevered it.

The author of the article may have gone to far in as suggesting that Lucy deserved to die. Sure she killed and maimed, sometimes for fun, but she is simply the product of a very traumatic childhood, touture and racism. Once she realized that not all humans are monsters, she exhibited grief and mercy. (She spared that bigot/arrogant soldier with the bionic arm and confronted Kouta about the murder of his father and sister.)

As the last episode goes on, the transformation of Lucy into a "human" in a moral sense is seen through the loss of her horns and surfacing of her emotions (Which she hardly showed even in her childhood).
Its true that she still attacks and presumably kills all the soldiers in that final scene, but this could simply be to protect Kouta by preventing the soldiers from attacking the house he (and all the other main characters) live in.

The first part of her life seems to embody the phrase "Hatred breeds hatred". While the new, more emotional Lucy represents the phrase "You control your future" as she apparently turned from her "task" of exterminating the human race by going back to live with Kouta (Something she said she could not do earlier in the episode).

Overall, this is a great story of coexistance vs. rasicm, love vs. hate, revenge vs. forgiveness, and destiny vs. freedom of choice.

I love this series, 10/10.
